Dear Parents,

The K-W Chinese School (KWCS) would like to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning students for the 2009/10 school year. Our staff and volunteers are energized and eager to start another exciting year and we look forward to working with you in providing a valuable educational experience for your children.

For your information, please make note of the following:

1. Fall registration is on-going for all new and returning students. A fee of $50, payable by cheque, can be made out to the “K-W Chinese School”. This fee will cover the cost of textbooks and teaching materials provided throughout the school year. If you have registered, but have yet to pay, please drop off your cheque to the school as soon as possible.

2. All Cantonese and Mandarin Elementary Classes will run from 9:00am-11:30am. Mandarin and Cantonese Credit Courses will run from 9:00am-12:15pm. Students are to enter the school through the main entrance on Hazel Street. Students in JK through Grades 3 can be picked up at the entrance to the left of the main entrance, also on Hazel Street.

3. All students will be receiving our new KWCS Handbook, to be used for homework assignments and as a tool of communication between families and staff.

4. The KWCS is introducing a number of new Chinese cultural activities to develop and encourage Chinese culture. These interest courses will start on October 3rd and registration in the Main Office will be taken on a first come, first serve basis.

5. The KWCS will be celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival on October 3rd. Mooncakes will be shared amongst students in every class. If your child has a nut allergy, please make your child’s teacher aware of the situation and the necessary precautions will be taken.

6. Our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive will be held on October 3rd. Staff and students are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items to donate to the Food Bank. Items may be dropped off in the box provided outside of the Main Office. We thank you in advance.

7. Important Dates to Remember:

September 26th                                                     East Asian Festival 2009. Family and Culture Day 11:00am-2:00pm, Renison College, University of Waterloo.

We wish everyone an enjoyable and successful school year. With your support and cooperation, we are confident that the KWCS will continue to provide the best possible learning experience for our students. Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
